چکیده

The focus of this case study is the meticulous observation urban soil pollution by heavy metals (HMs), or, alternatively, potentially toxic elements (PTEs). took place in center Volos, Greece. Moreover, 248 samples were collected during 2018–2021 (62 annually), while 3.65 km2 was, approximately, area. breakdown total concentrations for interpretation different parameters, also according to mean values and medians HMs, following decreasing order was monitored: Mn > Zn Cr Ni Cu Pb Co Cd. During 4-year study, an increasing trend metal concentration observed (for each year compared previous one). Furthermore, imaginary triangle, which observed, bordered historic train station, two city bus intercity coach stations commercial harbor. Statistical analysis implemented interpret exceedances HMs concerning Directive 86/278/EEC. Principal component (PCA) additional technique that conducted because correlations interdependences between HMs. A strong correlation but mainly Cd Zn, probably due their common origin. COVID-19 pandemic, significant changes parts city, limited movement motorized wheeled vehicles, long operating hours heating systems residential Further research needed future identify sources find possible ways reduce it. All all, a great conundrum environmental aspect sustainability.

Potential soil pollution by heavy metals in Kurdistan region, western Iran: the impact of ultramafic bedrock

Ultramafic rocks of the ophiolitic complexes are prone to alteration and degradation, and therefore, ease of mobility of heavy metals such as nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), lead (Pb), and vanadium (V), resulting in environmental hazards. The ultramafic rocks of the ophiolitic realm of Kurdistan province, west of Iran, show field and compositional evidence for such hazardous conditions...

Heavy metal pollution induced by a ferro-nickel smelting plant in Greece.

Seven heavy metals, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni and Zn, were measured in marine sediments, plants and invertebrates in the vicinity of a ferro-nickel smelting plant in Greece. The concentrations of metals in the sediment were higher than those found in the average unpolluted Greek coastal sediment. High levels of metals were observed in the gastropod molluscs, particularly Cerithium vulgatum, which ...

Potential ecological risk assessment and prediction of soil heavy-metal pollution around coal gangue dump

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the potential ecological risk and trend of soil heavymetal pollution around a coal gangue dump in Jilin Province (Northeast China). The concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu, Cr and Zn were monitored by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The potential ecological risk index method developed by Hakanson (1980) was employed to assess the poten...
